In a gruesome incident that has set alarm bells ringing about safety standards at amusement parks, a 24-year-old woman named Priyanka was killed after a fall from an amusement ride at the Fun-n-Food Water Park at Kapashera in South West Delhi on April 3, 2025. What should have been a weekend picnic outing to a joyride with her soon-to-be-husband Nikhil turned into a horrific nightmare.
Priyanka and Nikhil had been having fun at the water park since the afternoon till the evening, according to the police. At about 6:30 PM, the couple went on the amusement rides. Priyanka rode a swing-like roller coaster without knowing that the ride would later develop a fault. When the ride was at its highest point, the supporting pillar allegedly collapsed, and Priyanka fell from a significant height. She received several serious injuries such as deep cuts on both legs and forearms.
Nikhil took her to a hospital nearby in haste, but the injuries were deadly. Doctors reported her dead immediately upon admission. An FIR was registered on the basis of Nikhil’s report, and a probe is going on.
Mohit, Priyanka’s brother, has pinned the blame of negligence on amusement park authorities. He accused them of not properly maintaining the working condition of the ride and wanted to know on what grounds they allowed it to run if repair was necessary. He also claimed that medical intervention was delayed in reaching Priyanka, costing her her life.
Priyanka, who had been engaged to Nikhil since 2023, was employed as a sales manager with a telecom firm. The two had delayed their marriage to pursue their careers and fulfill family obligations. Their wedding had been planned for February 2026.
The park has been shut down after the incident, but no public statement has come from the management.
This tragic loss of life is a stark reminder of the need for rigorous safety inspections and immediate emergency response systems at public recreational facilities. The life of a young, dream-filled and loving person was lost—maybe to a failure that could have been prevented.
