More than 40 schools in Delhi, including Delhi Public School (DPS) RK Puram and GD Goenka School in Paschim Vihar, received bomb threat emails on Monday morning, causing widespread panic. The emails, sent late Sunday night, claimed that multiple bombs had been planted on the premises, prompting police and bomb squads to spring into action.
Students at the affected schools were sent home as police, fire officials, and bomb detection teams, including dog squads, combed the buildings. A police official confirmed that no suspicious items were found during the search operations. The Delhi Police assured the public of their commitment to the safety of schools and students. “We will soon identify the source of the email and take strict action,” said Delhi Police PRO Sanjay Tyagi.
Threat Email Demands Ransom
According to the police, the threat email was sent at 11:38 pm on Sunday, claiming bombs were “small and hidden very well.” The sender demanded $30,000 to defuse the bombs and threatened severe injuries to individuals if the bombs detonated. Authorities are investigating the email’s IP address to trace the sender.
The alert came amidst the usual morning rush of school buses, parents dropping off children, and preparations for assembly. The Delhi Fire Department received the first call from GD Goenka School at 6:15 am, followed by another call from DPS RK Puram at 7:06 am.
Political Leaders Slam Law and Order Situation
The incident sparked sharp reactions from political leaders, with former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal criticising the central government over the deteriorating law and order situation. “The people of Delhi have never seen such a bad state of law and order. Home Minister Amit Shah should answer the people of Delhi,” he posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and AAP leader Manish Sisodia echoed similar sentiments, expressing concern over rising cases of crime and fear in the capital. “Our children are not safe. The BJP-led central government has failed in ensuring security,” said Sisodia.
This is not the first instance of bomb-related threats in Delhi schools. In October, an explosion outside a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) school in Rohini’s Prashant Vihar damaged the school wall and nearby properties. A day later, an email threatened bomb blasts in all CRPF schools, which was later deemed a hoax after thorough investigations.
Police Continue Probe into Latest Hoax
The Delhi Police is actively working to identify the individual or group behind the recent hoax. Meanwhile, authorities have urged residents to remain calm and assured that all necessary precautions are being taken to ensure public safety.
