Actor Akshay Kumar’s unexpected cameo in Stree 2 has become a major talking point. In an exclusive conversation with IndiaToday.in, the film’s writer Niren Bhatt discussed the potential for a standalone film centered around Kumar’s character.
The Character’s Role in Stree 2
Akshay Kumar made a surprise appearance in the latter part of Stree 2, portraying a mysterious leader at a mental health facility. Although his character’s name remains undisclosed, he is revealed to be the last living member of the Sarkata bloodline, possessing the knowledge to defeat the ghost permanently.
Future of Akshay’s Character
When questioned about the potential for expanding Akshay Kumar’s role in future installments of the Stree universe, Bhatt was cryptic but optimistic. He shared, “I can’t disclose too much right now. However, we do have plans for every character within this universe, from the most minor to the most significant. Akshay’s role is not just a brief appearance; it could very well evolve into a more prominent role down the line.”
Bhatt further elaborated on the possibilities within the Stree universe, stating, “All characters in this universe are interconnected. We have the potential to develop numerous stories. A standalone film featuring Akshay would be exciting, and as long as we are dedicated to exploring this universe, anything is possible.”

How Akshay Joined the Project
Niren Bhatt also recounted how Akshay Kumar was approached for the cameo. Despite initially doubting the role’s appeal, Bhatt was persuaded by director Amar Kaushik to pitch the scene to Kumar. “I thought the role was too minor for Akshay, but Amar insisted we should at least try. To our surprise, Akshay was enthusiastic about the role and agreed to take it on,” Bhatt revealed.
Kumar’s response was positive; he was immediately drawn to the scene and eager to participate. Bhatt reflected, “Seeing his performance was a delight. The way he approached the scene was exceptional, and it has resonated well with the audience.”
The Role Was Not Specifically Written for Akshay
Bhatt clarified that the cameo was part of the original script and not tailored for Kumar. “The scene was always intended to advance the storyline of Stree 2. We hadn’t initially cast anyone for it, but we were pleased to have Akshay onboard,” he explained.
The character’s purpose is to link the narrative to the antagonist, Sarkata, by being a crucial source of information about how to confront the ghost. Bhatt emphasized that while the cameo was planned, the choice of actor was flexible until Kumar agreed to take part.
Other Notable Appearances
In addition to Akshay Kumar’s cameo, Stree 2 features a brief appearance by Varun Dhawan, who portrays a character in another film within the supernatural universe. The film has been a box office success, surpassing Rs 500 crore globally, and stars Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Aparshakti Khurana, Abhishek Banerjee, and Pankaj Tripathi in pivotal roles.
