After years of suspense, Marvel Studios has finally unveiled the new owner of the iconic Avengers Tower, once known as Stark Tower and owned by Iron Man (Tony Stark). The mystery surrounding the building was solved during Marvel’s special look at the upcoming Thunderbolts movie at D23 Brazil on November 9.
Valentina Allegra de Fontaine in Charge?
In the three-and-a-half-minute trailer, CIA director Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, is seen relaxing at a bar atop the New York skyscraper. She makes a remark to the assembled anti-heroes, hinting at the tower’s significance: “How crazy is it to think of all the monumental fights that happened exactly here where you’re standing? I mean, the place wasn’t cheap, but it’s got good optics.”
The bar in the trailer closely resembles the one where Tony Stark poured a drink during a confrontation with Loki in The Avengers (2012). While the trailer doesn’t directly state that Valentina owns the tower, it strongly suggests her involvement.
The Fate of Avengers Tower
Since 2017, the Avengers Tower has been on the market. Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) revealed that Tony Stark was in the process of selling the building. Happy Hogan was tasked with moving equipment, while the Vulture attempted to steal items from the tower.
A Storied History in the MCU
The tower played a key role in The Avengers (2012), especially during the Battle of New York. It also appeared in Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), where the Avengers celebrated before Ultron’s arrival. However, since the first Spider-Man movie starring Tom Holland, the tower has only been briefly featured, with some Avengers visiting a version of it in an alternate dimension in Avengers: Endgame (2019). Fans have long speculated that the tower might have been purchased by various Marvel characters, including Norman Osbourne, Reed Richards, Wilson Fisk, or even Victor Von Doom, who has yet to appear in the MCU.
