Sean Diddy Combs was arrested Monday night in New York City by federal agents from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), ABC News has confirmed. The arrest was made at the Park Hyatt hotel in Midtown Manhattan, following a sealed indictment filed by the Southern District of New York (SDNY). United States Attorney for the SDNY, Damian Williams, confirmed that the indictment will be unsealed in the morning, with more details expected to be released at that time.
Court Appearance and Charges
Combs is scheduled to spend the night in federal custody and will appear in court for arraignment on Tuesday. According to sources, a federal grand jury in Manhattan returned an indictment against Combs, leading to his arrest. The specific charges remain sealed at this time.
Defense Claims Unjust Prosecution
In response to the arrest, Combs’ lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, issued a statement criticizing the prosecution. Agnifilo labeled the case as “an unjust prosecution” and defended Combs, highlighting his contributions as a music icon, entrepreneur, family man, and philanthropist. “He is an imperfect person, but he is not a criminal,” Agnifilo stated, urging the public to withhold judgment until all facts are known. Agnifilo also noted that Combs has cooperated with the investigation and relocated to New York last week in anticipation of the charges.
Ongoing Investigation and Previous Raids
Combs has been under investigation for nearly a year, following allegations from his former girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, which were detailed in a civil lawsuit. Since then, at least ten additional lawsuits have been filed against him. Combs has consistently denied all allegations.
In March, federal agents conducted raids at Combs’ properties in Los Angeles and Miami. The raids were part of an ongoing federal investigation into sex trafficking, led by prosecutors from the SDNY. During these raids, several electronic devices were seized. HSI agents gathered evidence from Combs’ residences as part of this extensive investigation.
