BSF Seizes 4.3 Kg Gold at Tripura Border

The Border Security Force (BSF) 81 Battalion, based in Sonamura, Sepahijala District, successfully seized 2 kilograms and 177 grams of gold, valued at approximately Rs 1.74 crore, from NC Nagar, officials reported on Thursday. The operation, based on intelligence inputs, continued until 9 PM the same day.

Gold Smugglers Flee Amidst Fog

According to the officials, 2-3 Bangladeshi smugglers attempted to cross the border and discarded some items toward the Indian side. However, due to thick fog, the smugglers managed to escape before they could be apprehended.

BSF’s Swift Action

Assistant Commandant of BSF 81 Battalion, Somil Vohra, shared details of the operation. “Around 6 PM yesterday, we received intelligence suggesting the possibility of gold smuggling through the NC Nagar border. We quickly set up an ambush, and the operation lasted from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM. At 8:45 PM, 2-3 Bangladeshi smugglers crossed into our side and threw items toward the border. As one of our personnel retrieved the items, we issued a challenge call. Unfortunately, the smugglers managed to flee due to the dense fog,” Vohra stated.

Significant Seizure

Second in Command, BSF 81 Battalion, Rajesh Kumar Langeh, also spoke about the operation, emphasizing the importance of heightened security. “Our battalion stationed in Sonamura achieved a significant breakthrough last night. The NC Nagar company successfully seized gold worth Rs 1.74 crore. We remain on high alert, especially considering the current situation in Bangladesh. Our security measures are at the highest level,” Langeh stated.

The BSF’s vigilance and timely action thwarted an attempt to smuggle gold across the border, showcasing the force’s readiness and dedication to safeguarding national security.
