Released last week, Chhaava, starring Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna, has been receiving widespread acclaim from critics and audiences alike. Despite its promising start, the film’s momentum seems to be tapering off. While the movie’s early box office performance was strong, its earnings have shown signs of decline in the last few days.
Day 5 Chhaava Box Office Collection
As per trade tracker Sacnilk, Chhaava earned ₹24.50 crore on Day 5, bringing its total box office collection to ₹165 crore. Although the film’s earnings remain in the double digits, the Day 5 figure marks a noticeable dip from its previous earnings. On Day 4, the film recorded ₹24 crore, a significant 50.52% drop from Day 3’s ₹48.5 crore.
The film had an impressive start with ₹31 crore on Day 1, followed by ₹37 crore on Day 2 and ₹48.5 crore on Day 3, but its growth has started to slow down in recent days. The movie’s occupancy rate on Tuesday was 26.12%, with morning shows seeing 18.19% footfall, while afternoon and evening shows had higher attendance at 26.42% and 33.76%, respectively.
The Cast and Crew
Directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films, Chhaava is a historical action film based on the life of the Maratha king, Sambhaji, played by Vicky Kaushal. The film also stars Rashmika Mandanna as Maharani Yesubai, Akshaye Khanna as Aurangzeb, and Diana Penty in a supporting role.
Despite its powerful performances and historical backdrop, the film’s response has been mixed. Chhaava has been critiqued for its excessive “superhero” portrayal of the Maratha king, which somewhat detracts from the emotional depth of the story. The film was also praised for humanizing the central character, providing moments that resonate with the audience.
Calls for Tax Exemption
In light of the film’s success, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has urged Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to consider declaring Chhaava tax-free in the state to boost its continued performance.
Despite some slowdown in earnings, Chhaava remains a noteworthy release in 2025, with strong performances and historical significance.
