IndiGo Defends Reputation Against ‘Worst Airline’ Claim

IndiGo, the largest airline in India, has garnered an unwelcome distinction in a recent global ranking, positioning it as one of the worst airlines worldwide. This designation comes from AirHelp Inc., an online platform that helps passengers claim compensation for flight disruptions.

Global Ranking and Customer Feedback

AirHelp, which tracks customer complaints across 54 countries, processed data related to flight delays, cancellations, and overbooking, alongside customer satisfaction metrics such as food quality, comfort, and crew efficiency. According to the findings, IndiGo ranked a disappointing 103rd globally.

The report also highlighted Tunisair, based in conflict-ridden Tunisia, as the worst airline, while Brussels Airlines was recognized as the best.

IndiGo’s Stock Response

Following the publication of this report, IndiGo’s stock saw a dip during early trading. Shares fell by more than 1% at the start of the session, although they later regained some ground. By the end of the trading day, the airline’s stock had decreased by 0.86%, bringing the share value to Rs 4,333.05.

IndiGo’s Refutation of the Report

IndiGo swiftly responded to the claims, challenging the credibility of the survey. The airline issued a statement questioning the methodology of the report and pointed out that the data did not specify the sample size from India. IndiGo also raised concerns about the compensation guidelines used by the global aviation industry, which they believe were not adequately considered in the survey.
