Mahindra has introduced its much-awaited XEV 9e electric SUV in the Indian market alongside its sibling, the BE 6e. The XEV 9e, part of Mahindra’s born-electric lineup, is priced at ₹21.90 lakh (ex-showroom Chennai). Deliveries are set to commence in February 2025, as per the automaker’s announcement. The XEV 9e boasts a modern design and a plethora of features. Here’s an overview of Mahindra’s new electric SUV.
Distinctive Design
Initially speculated to be an electric version of the XUV700, the XEV 9e surprises with a unique design. Its triangular headlamp cluster, flanked by LED DRLs that stretch across the width of the SUV, gives it a futuristic look. Mahindra’s updated logo sits prominently above the DRLs.
Adding to its appeal, the XEV 9e sports an unbroken line from front to rear, culminating in a coupe-like profile with a sloping roofline. The SUV is equipped with striking 19-inch alloy wheels and measures 4,789 mm in length, with a ground clearance of 207 mm. Practicality is ensured with 195L frunk space and a spacious 663L trunk.
Tech-Loaded Cabin
The cabin of the XEV 9e is designed for spaciousness, thanks to its underfloor battery pack. High-tech features dominate the interior, with a three-screen setup spanning 110 cm across the dashboard. A two-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated logo, similar to the BE 6e, adds to the futuristic vibe.
The SUV offers as many as five screens, along with premium features like:
- Air purifier
- Sunroof with UV ray blocker
- Harman Kardon music system with Dolby Atmos
- HUD with augmented reality
- 5G connectivity and Amazon Alexa integration
- Cooled console and 60:40 split second-row seats
- Telescopic and tilt-adjustable steering wheel
Safety Features
Safety is a priority for Mahindra, with the XEV 9e equipped with Level 2+ ADAS capabilities and Secure360, allowing vehicle monitoring via a smartphone. Additional safety features include:
- Six airbags
- Electronic parking brake
- Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
- Driver drowsiness detection system
Powertrain and Range
The XEV 9e is powered by a 79 kWh battery pack, delivering an ARAI-certified range of 659 km and a real-world range of over 500 km. The electric motor produces 286 bhp and 380 Nm of torque, enabling the SUV to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 6.8 seconds.
For buyers seeking a more affordable option, a 59 kWh battery pack is available, paired with a 231 hp motor. This battery supports charging via a 140 kW DC fast charger.
