Naxal Attack Claims Lives of Security Personnel in Chhattisgarh

A head constable of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) was killed in an encounter with Naxalites in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district on Wednesday, according to a senior police official. The gunfight began around 1 PM in the forested border area between Sonpur and Kohkameta police station jurisdictions in the Abujhmad region during an anti-Naxal operation by security forces.

Joint Operation by DRG and BSF

The operation, launched on Tuesday, involved personnel from the DRG and the Border Security Force (BSF). The intermittent exchange of gunfire between the security forces and Naxalites continued until late evening, the official confirmed.

DRG Head Constable Succumbs to Injuries

The deceased was identified as 36-year-old Birendra Kumar Sori, a DRG head constable. He lost his life during the fierce exchange of fire, the police said.

Sori joined the Narayanpur district police in 2010 as a constable and was promoted to the rank of head constable in 2018, in recognition of his bravery in anti-Naxal operations.

Efforts to retrieve Sori’s body from the forest are underway, the official added. A search operation is still in progress in the area to track down the Naxalites.
