Shiv Sena (UBT) Urges Investigation into Coldplay Ticket Price Manipulation

Amid controversy surrounding the resale of tickets for Coldplay’s upcoming “Music of the Spheres” tour in Mumbai, Shiv Sena (UBT faction) spokesperson Anand Dubey has written to Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, urging an investigation into the alleged black-market sale of tickets. Dubey highlighted that tickets for the concert were reportedly sold out within minutes of going live on BookMyShow, leaving many fans disappointed.

Tickets Being Sold at Exorbitant Prices on Unofficial Platforms

Dubey’s letter also raised concerns about tickets being sold at inflated prices through unofficial channels, despite BookMyShow declaring the concert as sold out. He expressed worry that young fans were being exploited, with ticket prices allegedly reaching five to ten times the original cost. “This not only violates fairness but may involve illegal activities such as money laundering and fraud,” Dubey added.

Call for Investigation Into Alleged Nexus

In his letter, Dubey urged the Chief Minister and other authorities, including Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, Mumbai Police Commissioner, and Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner, to investigate the alleged nexus behind the black marketing of tickets. He emphasized that the situation needs immediate attention to prevent further exploitation of Coldplay fans.

BookMyShow Accused of Black Market Sales

In a self-recorded video, Dubey also pointed fingers at BookMyShow, alleging that the ticketing platform may be involved in the black marketing of tickets. He claimed that the site crashed within seconds of the tickets going on sale, yet tickets were still being sold at higher prices on other websites. Dubey called for a thorough investigation into the ticket-selling process.

Economic Offences Wing Summons BookMyShow Executives

Following these allegations, the Mumbai Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has summoned Ashish Hemrajani, CEO of Big Tree Entertainment (parent company of BookMyShow), along with the company’s technical head, for questioning. The investigation is part of an inquiry into the alleged black-market sales of tickets for the Coldplay concert scheduled for January 2025.

Legal Action Sought Against BookMyShow

Advocate Amit Vyas has also filed a complaint against BookMyShow, accusing the platform of facilitating ticket resales for exorbitant prices, some reaching up to Rs 3 lakh, while the original prices started at Rs 2,500. Vyas has demanded an FIR be filed against the company on fraud charges.

Coldplay had initially announced two shows at Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium for January 18 and 19, 2025, but due to overwhelming demand, an additional show has been added on January 21st.
