"Stree 2" Opens with a Bang

Stree 2 Tops Box Office, Beats Jawan, Pathan, Gadar 2 for Highest Opening

“Stree 2,” starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, has set the box office on fire, earning a staggering Rs 76.5 crore on its opening day. This massive figure marks one of the highest day-one earnings in Indian cinema, solidifying the film’s status as a blockbuster right from the start. The sequel to the 2018 hit “Stree” was released on August 15, coinciding with Independence Day, which likely contributed to its strong opening.

Sequel Success

Directed by Amar Kaushik, “Stree 2” is a follow-up to the much-loved “Stree,” which was both a commercial hit and a critical success. The original film’s unique blend of horror and comedy resonated with audiences, and the sequel seems to have captured the same magic. Producer Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films proudly announced the impressive opening day numbers through a poster, expressing gratitude to the audience for their overwhelming support. “Stree 2 creates HISTORY! India’s highest Day 1 Box Office ever! Thank you audience for all the love,” the production company shared.

Star-Studded Cast

In addition to Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, “Stree 2” features Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurana, all of whom reprise their roles from the first film. The return of these beloved characters has undoubtedly contributed to the film’s appeal, drawing fans back to the theaters to see how the story continues.

Competing with Big Names

“Stree 2” was released alongside two other high-profile films: Akshay Kumar’s “Khel Khel Mein” and John Abraham’s “Vedaa.” Despite the competition, “Stree 2” has emerged as the clear winner, outpacing both films by a significant margin.

“Vedaa,” directed by Nikhil Advani, tells a story inspired by real-life events, focusing on caste discrimination. The film stars Sharvari in the titular role, with John Abraham playing her mentor, former Major Abhimanyu Kanwar. While “Vedaa” received positive reviews, it managed to collect only Rs 6.75 crore at the box office on its opening day.

“Khel Khel Mein” Struggles to Keep Up

“Khel Khel Mein,” directed by Mudassar Aziz and featuring an ensemble cast including Taapsee Pannu, Vaani Kapoor, Fardeen Khan, Ammy Virk, Aditya Seal, and Pragya Jaiswal, has had a more modest start. According to industry tracking website Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 6.5 crore gross on its first day. The comedy-drama, produced by T-Series, has yet to reveal its official numbers, but it appears to be lagging behind “Stree 2” in terms of box office performance.
