Volkswagen India is gearing up to expand its SUV lineup in the Indian market with the introduction of a compact SUV in 2026. This new model will be closely related to the upcoming Skoda Kylaq, which is set to make its global debut next month.
The Volkswagen compact SUV will share the same platform and powertrain as the Skoda Kylaq. This approach mirrors the successful partnership between the two brands seen with models like the Kushaq/Taigun and Slavia/Virtus. The development costs for this new Volkswagen SUV are estimated to be around €25 million, according to reports.
Design Differentiation
While the Volkswagen compact SUV will share its underpinnings with the Skoda Kylaq, it will feature distinct exterior styling to align with the company’s design language. This includes a new grille, front and rear lights, bumpers, and a unique tailgate design. The interior of the Volkswagen SUV will also receive significant changes to differentiate it from its Skoda counterpart.

Based on the Skoda Kylaq, the Volkswagen compact SUV can be expected to offer a range of features including:
- MQB-A0-IN platform
- 17-inch black alloy wheels
- 2-spoke steering wheel
- 10.1-inch touchscreen

- Electronic Differential Lock
- Passenger Airbag Deactivation

While the exact pricing has not been confirmed, it is expected to be in line with the Skoda Kylaq, which is rumored to have a starting price of around Rs 8.50 lakh (ex-showroom).
